Mark 4:14 “The sower sows the word.”
It has been said that the Lord starts everything with a word. He is the word! A prophetic word is like a seed sown into our present and future.
Ezra 6:14 “So the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo. And they built and finished it….”
And the most important thing we are given to build in this life, is a relationship with Jesus.
John 17:3 “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ Christ, whom You have sent.”
He loves to make His love and care for us known in the prophetic.
I Corinthians 14:24-25 “But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.”
As we seek the Lord for a word on your behalf, our prayer is that the Father would grant you a greater revelation of His love, of the the amazing grace of His Son, and of the intimate friendship we can have with the Holy Spirit.
You may ask, “What’s all this about “receiving” the word, and what all am I really receiving here anyway?”
Blessing of the Father
In receiving a word, in a very real sense we receive the blessing of the Father! He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ, and He has given everything we need in Jesus….and He loves to confirm His wisdom, grace, favor, protection, supply, acceptance, and love for us in ways that are personal and meaningful.
Most often, the prophetic word will speak edification, and exhortation, and comfort (see I Cor. 14:3). “Edification” builds us up. Knowing the love of the Father for us in Jesus Christ is the ultimate edifier.
We are also built up as we receive revelation of how our Father “wired us” with our identity and purpose. Our Father wants us to be activated in our gifts and calling. Our Father wants to help us “do” the things we were created for…but most importantly, He wants us to “be” His children and His Son’s bride. The prophetic word shows He knows us and cares and has a plan for us. His care for us stirs our hearts to seek Him in deeper personal relationship…and from this deeper knowledge of Him, everything else flows by His grace. “We love Him because because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
The Grace of Jesus
When we receive a word from the Lord, we receive more of His grace into our life. His grace transforms us!
A word in season can bring strength as it imparts the joy of the Lord to us. Sometimes all it takes is one word from the Lord to renew hope and strength. His words contain His love, which is beyond description! His joy in us is strength. We can then pray “according to His riches in glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your heart(s) through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend …the love of Christ which passes understanding.”(Ephesians 3:16-19)
The Counsel of the Holy Spirit
As we receive the prophetic confirmation, our Counselor, the Holy Spirit, may give us clear “next” steps of obedience in our faith journey. Other times, we will simply feel increased confidence in His presence in the midst of the process we are going through to obtain the promise.
A Compass Point of His Love for Us
Like receiving a compass direction, receiving the prophetic word should point us to our Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. We should feel drawn to the presence of His Light and Life within the word. All attention should be on Him. We should receive only those words which bear witness with our born-again spirit, the Word of God, and the counsel of anointed Christian leadership.
Receiving a word may stir questions in our souls. Sometimes there will be parts of the word which just do not resonate. If so, we encourage you seek the Lord further before throwing the word away. Perhaps the word is prophetic, in the literal sense, which means its fulfillment is still future! Waiting on the Lord is always the safe course.
A Piece of the Puzzle
Another thing we may receive within the word is referred to as “a piece of the puzzle. First Corinthians 13:9 says: “we know in part and we prophesy in part.” The prophetic word can provide a fresh insight from the Lord, filling in a piece of the puzzle of our lives.
It is rare that the prophetic word will be that ultimate piece of jigsaw puzzle which completes the whole picture, but it can happen. More often, the word will seem like that linking piece which joins two sections, showing how they relate. It can also be like that “missing” piece, which gives a bit more clarity and hope that the puzzle will eventually make sense.
A Fresh View of our Lord’s Awesomeness and our Need to Wait on Him
We must surrender the whole to the One who holds every key. We must submit all to the Lord for Him to interpret and weigh it for us. He knows the way in which He means and intends to use His word, which does not return void. He knows how He will bring it to pass. The Supplier of the puzzle pieces is on your side, and HE longs to give you the divine insight and fresh impartation of the Holy Spirit for the abundant life of freedom.
Sometimes we struggle to force a word “piece” fit where it doesn’t belong. At times, in our soul’s desire, we have all tried to make a word say something it really didn’t say. But He is patient, and in time He will lovingly give us the insight to see exactly where the word fits in His purpose and plan for us.
Help Along the Journey
Often in the prophetic word we receive help just the right amount of help for our journey, just at the moment it is needed. Now, some people may be disappointed when the Lord does not reveal in totality what to do or what will happen in a specific situation. Just because the Lord does not issue a directive or concrete answer DOES NOT mean the Lord is unconcerned about that situation. Continue to seek HIM who has the answers. He may wish to reveal the thing you seek to you personally.
Preparation of our Heart
Or perhaps today’s word is preparing your heart to receive that particular revelation in His time. Keep taking it back to HIM, and do not lose heart but expect HIM to answer. He likes us, His kids, to keep coming back! The prophetic word, received in faith, should always draw us closer to the Lord, not closer to the prophet, who is merely a vessel.
Beware of the trap of continually seeking prophets for direction. Seek and obey your Lord, Jesus Christ. Consult your Counselor, the Holy Spirit. Respect the gift ministers, and honor all those who labor on your behalf in the Kingdom.
In this prophetic word, you may likely receive a “confirmation”. In other words, the word of the Lord may affirm a decision or direction or conclusion you have already received from the Holy Spirit. The Lord is always faithful to provide repeated assurance of His Presence for those who believe He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
The Lord’s purpose is always to increase our faith, hope, and love. His desire is to increase the revelation of who HE is in our midst. Therefore we can confidently trust that He will never leave us or forsake us.
He Will Do it Again!
The Book of Acts notes amazing incidences of prophecies and visions received by ordinary believers. What He did then, He will do again! Lord gave warnings, direction, and assurance of His protection and care. There were signs, wonders, visions in the night and even angelic messengers, and HIS ways have not changed! We can expect He will confirm our path, all along the journey. Ask the Lord Jesus to interact with you personally in this way! You will be amazed at His desire to reveal Himself to you in a way you can understand.
In summary, in the prophetic word, we receive a manifestation of God’s ability to speak to His children! And when He speaks, worlds are created! The prophet’s office (or service) is to be a vessel He can speak through, as the Holy Spirit reveals the Father’s heart and the Son’s passion for us, His children. His truth cuts through all the lies of the enemy which keep us in bondage!
We may see ourselves as a lost penny, but the truth is that the Lord never loses track of us. He does not slumber or sleep. He is intimately aware of our struggles and trials, tests, and tribulations. He wants to give us hope along the journey. And He wants us to know that we know who we are and what we have IN HIM. This will silence every lie of the accuser, as we learn who we are under the blood of Jesus Christ who gave His life for us and paid the price for our full access to the Father.
Ask, seek, knock, and He will answer. Obey Him in those commandments which never change, such as forgiving those who have wronged you and loving your brothers and sisters. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you. It’s all there for the asking. Disobedience can delay or hinder His best purpose for us. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what those roadblocks might be in your life. Admit you can do NOTHING without HIM! He will do it, even at times using the prophetic word to “jog” some of our blind spots loose, helping us move on to the victory that the Lord has already won for us! The Great I AM knows and holds our destiny, and He cares passionately that we claim our birthright and inheritance in HIM, both now and in the future glory yet to be revealed.
We pray that the revelation of our Lord in today’s prophetic word imparts to your heart a greater desire to serve HIM and the expansion of HIS Kingdom! As the days grow darker on many fronts, we are called to carry His Light and Life to a troubled world.
Our prayer is that we all take seriously the Great Commission as set forth in Matthew 28:19: “Go ye therefore and make disciples of all the nations….” You may say, “What can I do?” Have you ever considered prophetic evangelism? All can prophesy. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you how!! Or, prayerfully consider recommending this prophetic ministry to an unbelieving friend (or even to an unbelieving believer.)
To the Lord be all the glory! May we all receive a deeper revelation of the Lord and as He reveals the secrets of our hearts, may we “worship HIM and acknowledge He is truly among us.” I Cor. 14:25.
He is always speaking! May our hearts be tuned to hear Him, know Him, and love Him!
